Carpenters are craftsmen who work with wood. He does his carpentry for constructing, erecting, installing and maintaining structures and fixtures made of wood and other materials. It is a manual labour and involves work outdoor.

The supervisors of the project provide the carpenters with the layout, whereas the carpenters measure, mark and arrange materials for executing the same. They shape wood, plastics, glass using hand and tools. These tools include planes, saws, drillers, hammers and sanders. The joining of wood is done by using nails, screws, staples or adhesives. Finally, at the conclusion of the job, carpenters check the accuracy of the job done and make necessary adjustments.

Some carpenters are well versed with different tasks while the others are specialists in one carpentry job. Necessary training would help them in switching from residential building to commercial construction to remodeling jobs.

It is a strenuous job for the carpenters - a job that involves standing, climbing, bending and kneeling. The risks of getting injured are high as they work with sharp and rough materials. The payment for carpenters is usually agreed on a daily basis.
